Segway Events at the London Paralympics

12 Sep 2012

When Segway Events received a phone call requesting the use of Segways at the London Paralympics we very excited to be a part of this historical event – when we learnt that we would be working for Help the Heroes and would appear in the Closing Ceremony we felt more than privileged!

Our team travelled down to London just as the Paralympics was opening and immediately felt the excitement and buzz of the games.  Over 11 days our team worked tirelessly to train 9 war veterans and build up their Segway skills.  Once the Segway skills had been mastered it was time to introduce the props that would be used during the Closing Ceremony.  The skilled veterans managed to master riding a Segway whilst holding a torch, riding with a dog, and even steering with just their knees!  When the veterans finally made their entrance into the Olympic Stadium during the Closing Ceremony, they had more than mastered how to use a Segway and it was an honour for us to be a part of the event.

Being a part of the Paralympics and working with the fantastic people from Help the Heroes was an absolute pleasure for Segway Events and an experience that we will always be proud of!
